weakhero

Chapter 141 is the one hundred forty first chapter of Weak Hero. It is the 14th chapter of the third season.

It is the sixth part of Gerard Jin's Backstory.

Synopsis

A flashback shows Jeongmu and his friends attacking Jinu, and they tell him that they’re beating him up because of Gerard. The flashback ends.

Gerard is trembling with guilt and rage. Jinu tells him that he only got into a little accident and to focus on what matters now. Hyeonjin calls out how Gerard’s problems are spreading to other people. Sangman and Jinu stop the two from fighting.

The band enters the office and Sangman notices the director and manager are in a bad mood. Shin apologizes that the band doesn’t feel like they’ve been compensated, and agrees about the areas where Slam thinks are irrational and need improvement. He says they’ll do their best to ensure a positive relationship for many years to come and requests understanding and time.

Sangman brings up that they heard the venue paid travel expenses for the Songdo gigs and gave a raise for weekend ticket sales, but Slam has received none of that. Shin says he’s aware that artists need to be compensated appropriately to ensure top performance, but Sinma ensures fabulous advertising.

Jinu tells him that they want the bonus pay for travel expenses and weekend sales. Shin says that rates are fixed in their contract, but Jinu points out that contracts can be changed. Shin says it’d create issues for other bands who have a standard agreement with Sinma, and the system doesn’t allow them to help Slam out.

Gerard is about to speak but Hyeonjin gets to it first. He says Sinma can’t improve the terms of their contract or pay them more. The manager tells him to not be rude and true artists shouldn't be obsessed with money. Hyeonjin tells him to not talk down on him. The manager gets aggressive but Hyeonjin intimidates him with his height. Hyeonjin is sick of this bullshit and quits.

Shin says it’s perfectly normal to switch members around. He tells Jinu to write three upbeat songs by next week, and says the band doesn’t really need a bass. Gerard is upset and thinks Sinma knows nothing about how bands work. He thinks Hyeonjin may be selfish and impulsive, but his songs are the only one that could bring out Slam’s charms.

Slam can’t continue without Hyeonjin, so their contract is terminated. Gerard apologizes to Jinu and Sangman. Sangman says it isn’t his fault and it’s always the one who loves more that gets hurt. In the music industry, the more desperate you are, the more likely you’re to get the short end of the stick.

The next day, Gerard approaches Hyeonjin. He wants Hyeonjin to come back to Slam and says they left Sinma. Hyeonjin laughs and reveals that he already has a soloist deal. He says he deleted all his songs and files for Slam, and says that he never wanted to seriously be in a band in the first place. He tosses Gerard the key to the cabinet in the practice room and says there should be some music sheets and an external hard drive with songs left behind.

Gerard can’t act like he doesn’t care. He had given everything he had for that perfect music sheet like a complete work of art and for those songs like flowers on an unreachable hill. To Hyeonjin, maybe it was just all a waste of time, but Gerard can’t pretend like he doesn’t care either. He wants to perform and sing. He can’t think of anything else he’d rather do.

Gerard heads home but is confronted by Jeongmu, who brought two guys from Manwol with him. Gerard sets his bag to the ground and prepares to fight.
